Japan's workforce will face a shortage of 3.8 million people by 2035
According to a private research institute, Japan's workforce will face a shortage of 3.8 million people by 2035. This is said to be approximately double the shortage projected for 2024.
The primary reason is the shrinking working-age population due to aging. Shortages will be particularly severe in the service industry, wholesale and retail trade, healthcare and welfare sectors, and clerical and sales occupations. Countermeasures will require utilizing foreign workers, increasing labor participation among seniors and women, and boosting productivity through AI implementation.
For Japan, coexistence with foreigners is unavoidable. To achieve this, it is necessary to realize a society where foreigners can live comfortably.
